Grey Heron Old Faithful....usually there at the Mare Perchée early morning - almost fearless.

| Mallard Easily scared off by the b*****d dogs that charge into the Mare Perchée, this species is rather uncommon in the park nowadays.

| Sparrowhawk For the last two years a pair of Sparrowhawks has bred successfully in the Parc des Beaumonts. Here is one of the juveniles just out of the nest last year (2007). Note their characteristic begging calls which may be heard coming from the woodland near the Parc Mabille at the end of August. Barn Owl (Effraie des clochers) Very rare. This bird was filmed on October 16th 2008 as it spent the entire day hiding in a low bush, only partially visible. You can see the dull grey and sandy-rufous feathers of the wings, mantle and nape, just to the left of the centre of the picture. The bird is facing right, the white face mostly hidden at the top of the screen (now there's a surprise). It turns its head slightly at the end of the clip - so it's definitely alive... |
| Short-eared Owl A rare visitor to Beaumonts. This one was seen on October 2nd 2007 and unusually spent the whole day on site, rather than just flying over. As it flew high over the Savanna it was continually harried by magpies, as you can see here... Martinet noir Celui-ci est un Martinet noir et non un hirondelle...un migrateur il est commun au-dessus du parc durant l'été. |

Lesser Whitethroat Uncommon at Beaumonts : one breeding pair in 2007 and 2008. Although generally a shy species, males like this may be found relatively easily at the end of April singing from the tops of bushes.

| Whitethroat Quite a common breeding bird at Beaumonts with usually 4-5 pairs present during the summer. This is a male singing in late May.

| Melodious Warbler A somewhat unusual individual with an insignificant yellow wash on throat and rather unusual song....such birds could possibly be mistaken for Marsh Warbler (but note the shorter under-tail coverts). Hippolais polyglotte Celui-ci n'est pas typique, avec un chante inhabituel et quasiment pas de jaune sur la gorge. Un tel oiseaux pourrait évoquer un Rousserolle Verderolle (mais les sous-caudales sont nettement plus courtes).

| Melodious Warbler A more typical individual - this bird sung regularly from the Compost area throughout the spring of 2008.

| Chiffchaff A common breeding bird with about 7-8 breeding pairs annually. Note the song - a very familiar sound at Beaumonts throughout the summer...

| Willow Warbler Like the Chiffchaff, a summer visitor to Beaumonts, but generally less common. Very scarce in 2008 and probably did not breed in the park. Note the song which easily separates it from the Chiffchaff (above). Pouillot fitis Moins commun du pouillot veloce (ci-dessus). Facile a identifier lorsqu'ils chantent, comme celui-ci !

Mistle Thrush (Grive draine) Usually 1-3 birds seen daily throughout the year. This one is singing in early February.

Blue Tit (Mésange bleue) Ah, what a lovely little bird...common in the park, this one was after food left hanging out by a kindly local. |

Starling What a great bird ! Quite common throughout the year, and will flock in autumn and winter. This one was singing in the Ave de Marronniers...
Etourneau sansonnet Quelle merveille ! Commun durant toute l'année, mais surtout en automne et hiver. Celui-ci chantait de l'Avenue des Marronniers...

Serin Relatively common throughout the year. In winter they may often be found feeding on stubble (this one was in the recycling plant). Serin cini Relativement commun durant toute l'année.

Hawfinch (Gros-bec) Rather uncommon. May occasionally be seen flying over the park. The winter of 2008/2009, however, was a good one for Hawfinches when at least 6 birds could be seen daily around the Savanna. Even then it was difficult to see them perched, like this one on February 6th 2009

| Common Redpoll Rather uncommon. May be seen occasionally flying over the park during late autumn and winter. You have to be very lucky to find them feeding inside the park, like this one in November 2008. Sizerin flammé Peu commun au parc. | Chaffinch Quite common throughout the year, especially in autumn and winter. In October they fly over the park in their thousands - quite a spectacle !

| Tree Sparrow Sadly now a rarity in the park, although no doubt one or two pairs breed in the immediate surroundings (probably the cemetary). This bird was on the roof of a building just outside the park on rue Galilée.
